after the movies

Some friendships begin long before the music does.

Morten Samdal and Thomas Ingdal grew up in Tiller, outside Trondheim, Norway. In the 1990s, they were on the same football team. Years passed, and music took them in different directions. Morten found his way through punk, emo and indie rock, playing drums in bands including Youth Pictures of Florence Henderson, You Could Be a Cop and Onsloow. Thomas followed his own path through grunge, country, psychedelia and other guitar-driven music, playing in projects including Spun For Miles.

When they found their way back to each other as adults, music became another way of spending time together. Their collaboration first took shape as Feathers, a project that made room for loud guitars, melodic ideas and the pleasure of trying things out without knowing exactly where they would end up.

Eventually the songs began asking for something quieter. The two had also experienced the loss of people close to them. They wanted to make music that could hold on to the small things: memories, absence, unfinished conversations, the way ordinary places can stay with you for years. That change of pace became after the movies.

Their music lives somewhere in the slowcore and lo-fi landscape, with an affection for the emotional directness of indie rock, the fragile edges of home recordings and the space between notes. The point isn't to imitate a particular era or band. It's to let the songs remain human, including the parts that are crooked, hesitant or unresolved.

There is no grand production machine behind it. In their own studio, they collect fragments, rough sketches, stray melodies and half-finished ideas. They play, rearrange, record and build the songs themselves, following what feels right rather than a fixed recipe. Sometimes a tiny idea becomes a whole song. Sometimes the accident is the best part.

Don't be clever.
Not poetic.
Don't explain.
I love you anyway.

The debut album arrives on 15 November 2026. Eleven songs, made in the spirit of friendship, memory and finding your way back.
